Review: NARS All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation In Macao

Writer's picture: Kimberly SimoneKimberly Simone

As winter approaches, I have noticed that my summer foundation is becoming too dark. When I went to grab my previous winter foundation, the Lancome Teint Idole Ultra Long Wear, the bottle was almost empty! I struggled to get a pump out in order to do my makeup. For the first time, I finished a foundation which was exciting for two reasons: it confirmed (in my mind) that it was my favorite and “go to” (even for my clients) AND it gave me a reason to buy another foundation.

I went to Sephora and got color matched. The makeup artist suggested the NARS Sheer Glow foundation and NARS All Day Luminous Weightless foundation when I advised that I didn’t have anything in mind yet. My skin is really healthy – moisturized with very little darkness or scarring. She tried each foundation in the shade Macao (medium-dark with yellow undertones) on both sides of my face so I could tell the difference. I liked the finish of both but still wasn’t sold so I left empty handed.

For weeks, I went to my local store hoping that the Fenty Beauty shade 420 would be waiting for me on the shelf, however, it was always out of stock (even online). I decided that I did not want to wait any more and was not sold on the idea of falling in love with it (in the event that I did FINALLY get my hands on it) and it be out stock again when I was ready to repurchase.  So, the next time I was in Sephora I headed over to the NARS display and grabbed the All Day Luminous Weightless foundation.

Here are my thoughts after a few uses:

I was taken aback initially because the formula is runnier . It splashed everywhere and pretty much instantly soaked all  into my sponge. From there I switched to pumping it on my hand (slowly) and using the bottom of my foundation brush to place dots of the foundation around my face.

Although, the formula seems thinner than I am used to, it provides a good amount of coverage for me after 1-2 layers. I like that it blends easily and does not cake up after applying concealer under the eyes to highlight. The shade is perfect for me right now and it does not oxidize. I like the very natural finish it provides.

It claims to last up to 16 hours. I agree with this only if you are not a heavy sweater or get oily. I did get very warm at one point and felt like I was sweating so I tapped my face with my bare knuckle and the makeup did get displaced a little. I easily fixed it with a little powder.

Overall, I love this foundation for personal use so far. If you are looking for a lightweight foundation with high pigment then you will most likely like this one. I love a full face routine without getting “cakey” and too thick. I am going to continue to put the long wear claims to test and keep you all posted on my thoughts!

What is your favorite foundation and do you have to switch it up when the seasons change?
